TWINNING GUESTS VISIT CHELMARSH SAILING CLUB
Bridgnorth Twinning Committee arranged for their guests from Shrobenhausen to visit Chelmarsh Sailing Club on Wednesday 30th May, to enjoy the spectacle of the regular Wednesday night racing, and to take advantage of an opportunity to ‘have a go’ themselves.
Over 50 young people and 20 parents from Germany plus many host families from Bridgnorth came to the Club for the evening and many of the young people ventured on to the lake accompanied by members of Chelmarsh Sailing Club. The youngsters mainly used GP14 and Pico sailing dinghies, some owned by Club members, and some ‘training boats’ which the Club keeps for the use of new members.
There was some exciting sailing to be had, as the wind increased to a brisk force 4 during the session, and plenty of energy was expended before the hog roast supper provided by Ian Tristram of Bridgnorth.
The evening was rounded off by socialising in the lounge-bar of the newly refurbished Clubhouse watching the popular Wednesday evening dinghy racing.
Chelmarsh Sailing Club welcomes new members and encourages dinghy sailing over a wide range of ability from novices to experts. The Club provides Royal Yachting Association training courses for both Adults and Juniors using volunteer members who are qualified instructors. Anyone interested in joining a course should contact the Club at www.Chelmarshsailing.org.uk
