Chelmarsh St David’s Regatta 2008

The traditional start to the sailing season at Chelmarsh did not disappoint. There were bright skies with a wind gusting force 5. The faint hearted decided to stay on shore and consider Mothering Sunday those with more spirit took to racing.
27 Entrants all praised the OOD Gary Hodgkinson for setting excellent courses.
The pursuit racing was competitive, although the eventual worthy winner, Carl Jeffs and his crew Jim Toothill from Trimpley Sailing Club, sailing a GP must have wondered where they were when they looked astern and saw a Salcombe Yawl chasing them down the pool. Like a scene from Pirates of the Caribbean!
Mike and Karen Whitehouse (Chelmarsh SC) in the Yawl chased as hard as they could but third place was their reward.
The intrepid Keith Wilkins (Chelmarsh SC) using his Laser skills to the full came second but against the yawl his craft did look a tad small and lacking in sail area.
Richard Coates (Laser) and Gareth Wilkinson (Solo) both Chelmarsh club members had a share of fourth place.
A good start to the season.
