Sailors at Chelmarsh Sailing Club raised £769.94 for the RNLI on Sunday in a 5 hour endurance race. 15 teams of all levels competed in the annual event bringing a sense of fun along with a great atmosphere to Chelmarsh Reservoir near Bridgnorth. Each boat sailed with varying numbers of team members who swapped over helms and crews throughout the day. The rain stayed away and wind speeds mainly between force 3-4 kept the sailors happy for this great cause. The club, which won Bridgnorth District Council's Club of the Year award earlier this year, hosted the event for the second year running and the event is already in planning for next year.
The eventual winners were Laser sailors Cameron Smith, Richard Coates and Keith Wilkins. In second place were Solo sailors Gareth Wilkinson and Martin Bunn with Andrea Wilkinson and Sam Bunn in third place also sailing a Solo. The winning team won a £50 cash prize which they kindly donated to the RNLI adding to the amount already raised throughout the day. Sailing takes place at the club on Wednesday evenings and all day Saturday & Sunday. For further information on sailing please check out www.chelmarshsailing.org.uk or come along to the club.
