Warm sunshine and a light south westerly breeze greeted twelve visitors and 9 home boats
at Chelmarsh Sailing Club on Sunday 9th October for the final round of the GP14 Midland
Bell series.

The first race got off to a clean start, with a slight shift favouring those who went to
the right of the course on the first beat and splitting the fleet into two clear groups,
at the first mark Carl Jeffs/Jim Toothill (Trimpley SC) lead from Graham Flynn/Frank Nickless
(Dovey SC).The shift tightened up the last reach of the lap, making it a close call for flying
spinnakers. The leading crews retained their places to the end of the race, with
Matt Thursfield/Sally Fowler (Chelmarsh SC) in third place.

After the break for an excellent lunch, a new course was set for the second race.A freshening
breeze adding excitement for the closely packed fleet at the gybe mark, and allowing planing on
the reaches. At the end of the first lap Flynn led from Adam & Tim Mc Govern
(Hollingworth Lake SC) with Jeffs third. As the race progressed, Jeffs worked his way past
Mc Govern to finish in second place.

Race 3 used the same course, this time Jeffs established an early lead from Flynn with
Mc Govern and Thursfield close behind. The leading boats retained their positions to the
end of the race, to give Jeffs first overall for the event.

At the prize giving Carl Jeffs thanked OOD Richard Coates and all the Chelmarsh team,
on and off the water, for setting good courses and running an excellent event.
