CONGRATULATIONS to Hilary Davies, who this week has been down to London to receive her Lifetime Commitment to Sailing award. Follow the hyperlink to read the RYAs version of events.

The 2008 Midland Bell Program has been provionally put together. I cannot stress more that this is subject to change.

We have a champion in our midst. Congratulations to Sam Collingwood, who is the current GP14 Youth National Champion. Sam was crewing for Adam Parry at Midland SC in late October. See the Y & Y report for full details.

Aim

My aim as a fleet captain is to get as much involvement of sailors at Chelmarsh in GP14s as possible. Whether it be competitive racing on a sunday, or the the more relaxed cruisers / racers on a saturday, I don't mind.

Having been to the area AGM on 23rd Nov, it is clear we are not alone in numbers being lower over the last 12 months. I want to buck that trend, and try to increase our numbers on the water. We have the boats on the boatpark, its how to get them floating that will be tough.

AGM

It was held, we listened, we discussed and we ate popadoms!

The main discussion was the format for sailing in 2008. To cut a long discussion short, it was agreed we would actively encourage menagerie sailing of none-fleet boats, to have a start after the Solo / Topper start.

The committee also understood that as a club, we would be in favour of having Pursuit Racing in the Summer C section of the calendar. This makes very little change to the sailing most of us do at Chelmarsh as it is the July / August series, when few sail anyway. Committee can still go further, but having heard your opinions, I will be encouraging a year with this proposal before we take further action if needed..
